The possibility of Luis Suárez joining the ranks continues to give Inter Miami fans plenty to to talk about and the Uruguayan was one of the hot topics leading up to this weekend’s game against Charlotte FC, which will mark the end of the 2023 season for the Herons. Spanish full-back Jordi Alba knows Suárez better than most – they were team mates for six seasons at Barcelona, winning four LaLiga titles and the Champions League together among other successes. He spoke about the possibility of the Uruguayan striker joining the Fort Lauderdale team for next season.

Prior to Friday’s training session, Alba told reporters that he would be delighted to be part of the same team with Luis Suárez again – the two are great friends and have managed to maintain that relationship even after Suárez left Camp Nou in 2020 to join Atlético Madrid. Since then, he has returned South America, signing short-term deals with Nacional and more recently with Grêmio, with whom he remains under contract until December 2024. Alba added that while he would love Suarez to join Inter Miami, the final decision will be up to coach Tata Martino and the player himself.

“He is an important player for his club [Grêmio]. He’s under contract and it’s a decision that both the club, the boss and Luis will have to make. I am not going to get involved in that. I wish he could come, I have always said that I want to play with the best and for me Luis is a great player. I have been lucky to share many moments with him both on and off the field; he is a great friend of mine and I I would love for him to come, but it is not a decision that I can make. I hope that he can come and it would surely help us a lot,” Alba explained.
