Maryland sports betting broke its own monthly record in November, and it’s not out of the realm of possibility that it could have another record-setting month in December.
Maryland Lottery and Gaming reported a total sports betting handle of $550,716,329, its largest single-month total since December 2022.
Online sports betting accounted for nearly 97% of the state’s total handle.
Record Setting Month
Maryland sports betting broke its previous monthly high that was set last year. The state’s previous record was $497.1 million in December 2022. As football continues to march towards the playoffs, it’s a good bet that we’ll see another record setting month in December 2023.
This comes just one month after the state reported its most profitable month ever, as Maryland Lottery and Gaming noted the state took in $5,812,245 in sports betting tax revenue in October.
ESPN BET also made its debut in the state this month, launching in full on Nov. 14. The operator totaled $33.3 million in online sports betting handle as it split the month as ESPN BET and Barstool Sportsbook. December will be ESPN BET’s first full month of operation in the state.
